| December 9, 2008 Dear Colleagues and Friends in MCC, I want to make you aware of two outstanding leadership events occurring in January and February of 2009. | | The Creating Change Conference will take place in Denver, CO, January 28-February 1, 2009. We are especially excited that our very own Moderator, Rev. Elder Nancy Wilson will be presenting a workshop on Queer Theology in a Global Context. She will be assisted by our Global HIV/AIDS Ministry Program Director, Joshua Love. In addition to this workshop, there will be over two dozen leadership training sessions offered through The Task Force Academy for Leadership and Action. These workshops will focus on LGBT organizing, policy making, capacity building and leadership development at the grassroots level. Follow this link for more information and registration www.creatingchange.org. | The Fellowship will be holding a leadership retreat in Charlotte, NC, February 18-21. Our Moderator will be there as well. This retreat will focus on the importance of wholeness in leadership, taking its direction from the passage in James which reads: "My brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of any kind, consider it nothing but joy, because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance; and let endurance have its full effect, so that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing." James 1:2-4 (NRSV) The worship and learning at this retreat will be rich indeed! For more information and registration go to www.radicallyinclusive.net. | I know that all of us will be making strategic decisions about how we fund conferences and travel next year, but these leadership opportunities are well worth the investment. Let me know if you plan to attend either of these (RevMonaWest@MCCChurch.net) so that we might gather MCC folk while we are there. Blessed Advent to you all, Mona Rev.
