What's going on at the march?

Join Rev. Elder Lillie Brock in Washington, DC on October 10-11, 2009 at the National Equality March

I am Rev. Elder Lillie Brock, A Christian lesbian woman, born to a Southern Baptist minister and his wife and raised in Alabama.  I am a tax paying citizen of the United States of America and will be in Washington D.C. Oct. 10-11 to join my voice with so many others who want our politicians to know that we're tired of paying taxes like first class citizens but denied rights that make us second class citizens.

This March for Equality is very important to me and this is why!

My daughter Savannah, who is now 12 years old, has enjoyed a life relatively free of harassment, even in the public schools in Dallas, Texas.  Her teachers, classmates, parents of classmates and principles have supported us as a family consistently.

My partner, Juley, and I have been blessed with the acceptance of our families and enjoy the connection we have with them.

As a family, we are able to watch television shows and movies that all have positive gay characters that are affirmed for who they are.

We enjoy the freedom of worshipping in Metropolitan Community churches and know that there are other churches where we would be welcomed.

AND THEN. . .

When it comes to the laws of this great land, there is anything but affirmation and acceptance.  Juley and I contribute to our country with our fair share of taxes, go to work every day, raise a straight A student, give money to charities and love our neighbors. But apparently that's not enough to keep the government from denying us rights because of who we love and the end result is that we pay more and get less!

I'm mad about that and if you are too, then join me in Washington to tell our political leaders that we've had enough!

Help us make a difference!  Information available on the organization's website.  Check it out and see you in DC!

Metropolitan Community Church is a place for all people. It is our founding belief that all are welcome at the table whether they are GLBT, Straight, Questioning, a member of MCC, a member of another church, or not affiliated with a church at all. The love of God is NOT conditional. All are welcome!
