URGENT ACTION ALERT!

Dear Friend:

I am urgently asking for your help.

Members of our faith community in Moldova are involved in a public action in response to yesterday’s Moldovan elections. The Communist Party was re-elected to its third term in office. Moldova has the only Communist Party parliament in Europe.

Reports and concerns have been raised about the validity of the election. Community members have taken to the streets in Moldova and violence has erupted.

I have been in touch with Florin Buhuceanu, Eastern European Coordinator, and members of our community.

The violence is escalating – we have just received on-site reports of gunshots and explosions. The parliament is on fire with protestors inside The government has called in the army.

We have been asked to pray for the Moldovan government not to use violence as a way to resolve this protest.

We have been asked to contact our embassies to urge the Moldovan government to use peaceful means to handle this situation.
